FRAME SIZE FOR AN 11×17 TABLOID POSTER

The 11×17 inch poster (27.9×43.2 cm), also known as tabloid or ledger size, sits between A3 and A4 in scale. It is a favourite for gig posters, event flyers, and indie art prints. At this size, a mount makes a noticeable difference — it transforms a print that might otherwise look like a pinned-up flyer into a proper piece of wall art. Without a mount, you need an 11×17 inch frame. With a 2-inch mount border, the frame jumps to 15×21 inches. Use the calculator below for your exact dimensions.

WHERE TO HANG AN 11×17 POSTER

An 11×17 inch print is a compact piece that works well in smaller rooms and tight wall spaces. It is ideal above a writing desk, next to a bookshelf, or in a bathroom. In a kitchen, mount it on the wall opposite the window where it catches natural light. For home offices, hang it at seated eye level behind your monitor — about 110 cm from the floor. This size is also brilliant for staircase walls. Line up three or four 11×17 prints ascending the stairwell, spaced evenly to follow the angle of the stairs. Keep the gap between frames consistent (about 8–10 cm) for a clean look. In bedrooms, a single 11×17 print works above a bedside table or on a narrow wall section between a wardrobe and the door.

FRAMING TIPS

Gig posters and indie prints often have bold graphics that suit a slim, minimal frame. A 15 mm black or white moulding keeps the focus on the artwork. If the print has a lot of white space or a light background, a coloured mount (dark grey or charcoal) adds depth without clashing. For valuable screen prints, use UV-filtering glass.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is 11×17 the same as A3?
No, but they are close. An 11×17 inch poster is 27.9×43.2 cm, while A3 is 29.7×42 cm. A3 is wider but slightly shorter. An 11×17 print will be a little loose widthwise in an A3 frame and slightly too tall heightwise. For a precise fit, buy the frame that matches your actual poster size.
What mount width works best for 11×17?
A 2-inch (5 cm) mount border works well for 11×17 prints — it adds presence without making the overall frame size unwieldy. This gives you a 15×21 inch frame, which is still easy to hang and affordable to buy.
Where can I buy 11×17 frames?
11×17 is a standard US paper size (tabloid/ledger), so frames are widely available from high-street shops and online retailers. Look for frames labelled "11×17" or "tabloid size." IKEA’s FISKBO and RIBBA ranges both include this size.
