A3 is the most popular poster size in the UK and Europe for art prints, photography, and promotional material. At 29.7×42 cm (11.69×16.54 inches), it is defined by the ISO 216 standard — each A-size is exactly half the area of the next size up, maintaining a consistent 1:√2 aspect ratio. A3 prints look great with or without a mount. Without a mount, you need an A3 frame (29.7×42 cm). With a 5 cm mount border, the frame becomes 39.7×52 cm. WHERE TO HANG AN A3 POSTER
A3 is the sweet spot for UK homes — large enough to be noticed, small enough to fit anywhere. Hang it above a desk in a home office, over a hallway console table, or on the wall beside a bed. In a living room, A3 works well as part of a gallery wall arrangement — mix it with A4 and A2 prints for variety while keeping the A-series proportions consistent. For a minimalist look, a single A3 print centred on a narrow wall (60–80 cm wide) creates a clean focal point. Bathroom walls are another good spot — A3 is compact enough to fit above a towel rail or beside a mirror. Mount it at eye level (about 150 cm from the floor to the centre) in hallways and bathrooms. Above furniture, leave 15–20 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame.

FRAMING TIPS
A3 frames are widely available in the UK from high-street shops like Hobbycraft, The Range, and Dunelm, as well as IKEA (the LOMVIKEN and RIBBA ranges both do A3). For a professional look, choose a frame with a built-in mount — many A3 frames come with a pre-cut mount for A4 prints, so check the mount opening matches your actual print size. White or off-white mounts are the standard choice. Black mounts work well with photography and high-contrast prints.
