How to do Fish Pose

An intermediate backbend pose, step by step.

  1. 1Lie on your back with your legs extended and your hands tucked under your hips, palms down.
  2. 2Press into your forearms and elbows to lift the chest.
  3. 3Arch the upper back and gently lower the crown of the head toward the floor.
  4. 4Keep most of the weight in the forearms, not the head.
  5. 5Open the chest and breathe into the throat and ribs.

Alignment tips

  • Bear the weight in the forearms and elbows so the neck stays safe.
  • Place a block under the upper back for a supported, restful version.
